Antioquia’s railway plan will include six projects. Which ones are they?

Six railway projects that are part of the Department’s Transport and Logistics Master Plan and the Antioquia Railway have already begun development with formulation, pre-feasibility and feasibility studies. The initiatives seek to integrate into the national railway system in the medium and long term.

According to the Antioquia Railway, the first major railway project is called the Mixed Train, as it unites the River Train and the Green Train projects in a single line, which are in feasibility studies.

Both projects total a length of 204 kilometers, the Tren del Río connects the Primavera sectors with El Hatillo, and the Tren Verde connects El Hatillo with the municipality of Puerto Berrío, and its initial investment is estimated at 16 billion pesos.

The second railway project is the Coffee Train, whose initiative is in the pre-feasibility study and seeks to connect the municipalities of La Pintada with Caldas.

Its length was drawn at 99.7 kilometers in Antioquia territory and will benefit the municipalities of Caldas, Amagá, Angelópolis, Fredonia, Venecia, Titiribí and La Pintada, although it will have stations in Primavera, Amagá, Bolombolo, La Pintada and Manizales.

The third railway project of the Master Plan is the Train to Urabá, whose length is 306 kilometers and its line runs from Bolombolo to Turbo.

Its investment is estimated at 25 billion pesos, it will have charging stations in Santa Fe de Antioquia and Mutatá, and will benefit the municipalities of Chigorodó, Carepa and Apartadó.

The fourth railway project is the Northern Train, an initiative that is in the formulation stage, and links the municipalities of San José del Nus with Turbo, crossing the department of Córdoba through the municipality of Montelíbano.

Finally there is the railway project of Interoceanic Train, initiative that is also in the formulation stage and links the municipalities of Turbo on the Atlantic Ocean in Antioquia with Puerto Cupica in the department of Chocó.
