Marcela Holguín, promoter manager of the Antioquia Railway, explained that: “One is the Tren del Río, which is a passenger system, and the Tren Verde, which is a freight system. We are joining these two railway lines because what we want is to structure a PPP that will allow us to build a multipurpose train from Puerto Berrío to La Primavera in Caldas. We are structuring this project and in more or less 15 months, we believe we can go out to tender.”
The developer also has two other projects on its radar that are in the pre-feasibility phase.
“They are the Urabá Train, we need to connect with the ports in Antioquia, that is why we are going to bring this railway line to a feasibility, and the Coffee Train that belongs to the RAP of Water and the Mountain with Caldas, where we connect with the Pacific Train from Buenaventura-Zarzal, Risaralda, connect at kilometer 41 with Caldas and later with Antioquia”: added Holguín.
The intention is to leave the projects in the structuring stage.
Holguín also commented that: “We are going to leave these projects structured, advanced to a level of feasibility to be able to really connect with the Central Railway System of Colombia, because the idea is that it really be a railway system that has connections in all departments and obviously with the seas in the ports.”
Through the Promotora, Antioquia seeks to reactivate 2,450 kilometers of railway lines in the department. These three railway projects will help with the mobilization of passengers and the transportation of cargo throughout the department.
