The Government of Antioquia promotes responsible pet ownership through various strategies, including vaccination days, which help prevent diseases in animals.

In Betulia, this initiative took place in the main park, where numerous residents came with their pets to participate in the rabies vaccination.

The vaccine, delivered free of charge by the Government, contains the inactive rabies virus, which guarantees the protection of dogs and cats against this disease.

In addition to safeguarding the health of pets, vaccination seeks to prevent the spread of rabies to humans, since it is a communicable disease.

The inhabitants of Betulia, who participated in the event, highlighted the value of their pets as part of the family and thanked the initiative. They also extended the invitation to other animal owners to join these protection days.

“The vaccine has an effect that lasts between 11 months and a year. Therefore, it is essential to vaccinate pets every year,” said Ricardo Castrillón Quintero, director of Environmental Health and Risk Factors of Antioquia.

Vaccination days will continue to be held in different municipalities of the department during the rest of the year. Local mayors will define the meeting points for these activities.

**Dr. Jones:** It’s my pleasure to be here.

**Anchor:** We’ve been seeing a lot of reminders about upcoming vaccination opportunities. Can you tell us a bit about what vaccines are being offered and who should be getting them?

**Dr. Jones:** Absolutely.
