Anti-Semitic incidents in Austria have increased fivefold since the Hamas massacre

In 2023, the anti-Semitism reporting center of the IKG Vienna registered 1,147 anti-Semitic incidents.

Vienna (OTS) – In the calendar year 2023, the anti-Semitism reporting center of the Jewish Community of Vienna (IKG) registered a total of 1,147 anti-Semitic incidents. This corresponds to an increase of 59.5% compared to the previous year (719 incidents). The year 2023 will eclipse the previous negative record year 2021 (965 incidents).

2023 was marked by the major attack on Israel by Palestinian terrorist organizations on October 7th and the subsequent explosive increase in anti-Semitism worldwide. The genocidal massacre represents a dramatic turning point: by October 6th, the average number of reports per day fell to 1.55 compared to 2022 (1.97). For the period from October 7th to December 31st, there was a fivefold increase to 8.31 anti-Semitic incidents per day.
