Anti-Covid-19 vaccine: introduction of the 4th dose for people over 65 in Australia

Australia is facing an outbreak of a new strain of the Omicron variant of Covid-19. The country introduces the 4th dose of vaccine.

From April 4

The health authorities in Australia are going to offer a 4th dose of vaccines against the Covid-19 to over 65s. They announced this new measure on Friday March 25, reports Le Figaro.
According to the Minister of Health, Greg Hunt, the additional dose would be available from April 4 for people who received a third dose at least four months previously. This decision was taken in the face of the spread of a new strain of variant Omicron which spreads among the population.

For better protection

The minister pointed out that the booster dose is the best protection against the most serious effects of Covid-19 and may protect against the long-term effects of coronavirus.
That 4th dose is intended in particular for vulnerable people such as those over 65, indigenous people over 50, the immunocompromised and residents of retirement homes.

Towards the easing of restrictions

Many countries in Europe, including France, Germany and Sweden have already recommended the introduction of a fourth dose for the vulnerable, especially the elderly. Greg Hunt also spoke of an easing of restrictions for travelers from April 17.
These passengers would no longer be required to carry out a screening test for Covid-19 upon arrival, but they will need to be vaccinated and wear the mask on the plane.
Since the start of the pandemic, theAustralia recorded a total of 3.93 million cases of coronavirusand 5,824 deaths.
