The Public Prosecutor’s Office (MP) reported that this Wednesday, July 10, the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office is conducting an ocular inspection at the San José Aerodrome, in Puerto San José, Escuintla.

According to the investigative body, the aim of the investigation is to document places of interest to the Prosecutor’s Office.

In addition, the conditions of the facilities must be documented, following an official investigation initiated by the MP.

In December 2022, it was reported that the current government had invested almost Q571 million in the airfield in Puerto San José, with a view to converting it into a cargo airport.

This multi-million dollar investment raised doubts because the Government supposedly never socialized the studies that technically support the plan to convert the aerodrome into a cargo airport.

On that occasion, Aeronautics indicated that the objective was not only to convert the aerodrome into a cargo airport, but also into an alternate airport.

Training flights will also be moved to Puerto San José, in order to free up demand at La Aurora International Airport.

The investigation by the MP will continue on July 10 and is expected to provide further details.
