Anti-Corruption Activists Disappointed with Slow Resolution of Firli Bahuri Case – 2024-07-25 13:25:31

Former Chairman of KPK Firli Bahuri (Doc.MI)

ANTI-CORRUPTION ACTIVIST Herdiansyah Hamzah Castro is disappointed with the Metro Jaya Police who until now have not resolved the case of receiving gratuities, bribes and extortion by the former Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) against the former Minister of Agriculture (Mentan) Syahrul Yasin Limpo (SYL).

“This is what is strange about Polda Metro, showing poor law enforcement,” said Herdiansyah, Monday (22/7).

Herdiansyah said he had suspected that Firli’s case would not be resolved. He suspected that there would be an exchange or barter of cases between the KPK and Polda Metro.

“The Firli case was ultimately “intentionally” shelved and left to evaporate,” said the legal expert from Mulawarman University.

Due to this improper law enforcement, the image of the police is said to be really bad in the eyes of the public. Therefore, he is reasonable if the police lose public trust.

It is known that Polda Metro Jaya has sent the case files for stage 1 of suspect Firli to the DKI Jakarta High Prosecutor’s Office (Kejati) on Friday, December 15, 2023 at 09.30 WIB. The pile of case files for the former head of the anti-corruption agency is 0.85 meters high.

After being examined and deemed incomplete, the Jakarta High Prosecutor’s Office (JPU) returned the case files of suspect Firli Bahuri to Polda Metro Jaya on Thursday, December 28, 2023. The transfer was accompanied by instructions regarding the formal and material completeness that must be completed by investigators.

Then, Polda Metro reassigned the file to the DKI Jakarta High Prosecutor’s Office on Wednesday, January 24, 2024. Still incomplete, the High Prosecutor’s Office developed Firli’s file again to Polda Metro on February 2, 2024. Until now, the file is still in the hands of investigators.

Director of Special Criminal Investigation (Dirreskrimsus) Polda Metro Jaya Kombes Ade Safri Simanjuntak had time to respond regarding the development of Firli’s case files. He admitted that he had coordinated with the Public Prosecutor regarding the fulfillment of the case files.

“We will continue to carry out effective coordination with the Public Prosecutor, even some time ago we also coordinated with the Public Prosecutor regarding the fulfillment of the P-19 instructions or the results of the coordination outlined in the coordination with the Public Prosecutor,” said Ade at the Criminal Investigation Unit of the National Police, South Jakarta, Friday, June 21, 2024.

He did not confirm the target for the re-transfer of Firli’s case files. He only said that it would be transferred to the Jakarta High Prosecutor’s Office as soon as possible.

“We will comply with all P-19 instructions and the results of coordination with the Jakarta Attorney General’s Office,” said Ade.

However, a month has passed and there has been no development in the case that ensnared the former KPK leader. Especially, the return of the case files to the DKI High Prosecutor’s Office, so that Firli Bahuri can be tried immediately. Moreover, SYL himself has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for the case handled by the KPK.

Firli was named a suspect on Thursday, November 23, 2023. Firli was not detained, but was prevented and barred from leaving the country. Most recently, he was caught on camera playing badminton.

Firli was charged with Article 12 letter e or Article 12 letter B, or Article 11 of Law Number 31 of 1999 as amended by Law Number 20 of 2001 concerning amendments to Law Number 39 of 1999 concerning the Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption in conjunction with Article 65 of the Criminal Code.
