Zach Eflin pitched in his Orioles debut, Anthony Santander hit his 30th homer and Baltimore routed the Toronto Blue Jays 11-5 in the first game of a doubleheader on Sunday.
Obtained from Tampa Bay in a trade for three minor leaguers on Friday, Eflin (6-7) provided an immediate boost to a shaky Baltimore rotation. Despite allowing 10 hits in six innings, including a three-run homer, Eflin struck out seven and walked none for the AL East leaders.
The right-hander was backed by an offense that built a four-run lead in the first inning and extended it to 7-0 in the fourth. Santander made it 10-3 in the fifth with a two-run homer off Yerry Rodriguez, Ryan Mountcastle hit a solo shot in the eighth and Jordan Westburg finished with three doubles and two RBIs.
Addison Barger hit his first major league homer for last-place Toronto, a three-run drive off Eflin in the fifth inning. Barger came on in the second inning for second baseman Justin Turner, who was traded to Seattle during the game.
Dominican Vladimir Guerrero Jr. also hit a home run for the Blue Jays, who were coming off a three-game series sweep of Texas.
For the Orioles, Venezuelan Anthony Santander went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs.
