Anthony Delon’s Fiction Debut: Bastingage and Family Turbulence

After two autobiographical books, Anthony Delon launches into fiction. The actor announced on Instagram that the proof of Bastingage had been signed and that it would be released on March 27.

In the caption of a photo of him on a canal in Venice, the new novelist rewarded his fans with a quote that we can guess from the future opus: “How might love and pain be so superimposed in successive layers, to come chain myself to this being of flesh so fragile and powerful at the same time…”

Toxic love and family turbulence

Anthony Delon also reveals a page from this work with some corrections. We can sense a conflicting story with both a man and a woman. And if we are to believe RTL which delivers an exclusive, the first work of Alain Delon’s son seems to be in a line close to autofiction, this literary movement which has many followers, even if the author has took care to change the identities of the protagonists.

Indeed, the plot, say of the radio, awakens reminiscences of the family turbulence that the Delon clan has been going through for several years. Against the backdrop of a “toxic” love story, we meet Philippe, father of the hero, “a former industrialist (…) weakened by illness”, who maintains a “complex” relationship with his son. The man “as egocentric as he is castrating” left Switzerland to return to live in France. He is visibly flanked by a personal assistant asking for money. Is that all ? No ! The list of characters is completed by a half-sister who wields “the art of duplicity”.

A new book regarding family

This is not the first time that Anthony Delon has published a book on family. He signed Entre chien et loup, in 2022, republished in paperback the following year, in which he spoke of his youth and his difficult relationship with his father. Previously, in 2008, he explained in Le Premier Maillon his need to “kill the father”, his adolescent drift and his redemption. Is the choice of roman à clef intended to avoid the wrath of the barely masked people who appear in the text? Or did Anthony Delon want to distance himself a little from reality to better understand it? Response on March 27 in bookstores.

In any case, Fayard can congratulate himself on having it in his purse: whatever its literary quality, the book will be talked regarding.
