He has already been training hard for a year to achieve the adventure of a lifetime: crossing the Antarctic alone and without assistance. This is the challenge that Frédéric Metzger, chef at the 48° Nord hotel-restaurant in Breitenbach, in Bas-Rhin, set himself. The large white expanses and the cold have fascinated him since he was little. Departure is planned for October 2025. With this crossing, he wishes to raise awareness of eating disorders. Frédéric is himself concerned and suffers from hyperphagia. He recognizes the difficulty of talking regarding it to those around you.

The cook wants to share this fight with as many people as possible and try to change mentalities. Ambassador of the French Anorexia Bulimia Federation, he would also like to intervene in schools. By surpassing himself with this challenge in Antarctica, he wants to contribute, on his own scale, to breaking the taboo and freeing up speech surrounding these troubles. An adventure for which he is sponsored by two renowned explorers: Rémi Camus and Alban Michon.

Before starting his day behind the stove, Frédéric trains physically. Several exercises allow him to work on his endurance. Frédéric has already tested himself in the mountains, in Tignes, to anticipate the weather conditions. It completes this preparation for physical effort with a mental part. It is possible to follow your preparation on your account Instagram.
