By exposing us to bacteria, viruses and parasites, or to harmful substances, our food can make us sick. An unbalanced or badly adapted diet to our lifestyle also makes us run short to medium term risks.

What are these risks? How do they evolve with production and preparation practices, or with our expectations as consumers and citizens? How to prevent or protect once morest accidental contamination throughout the food chain? What are the keys to nutritional balance? These are all questions that ANSES will be answering on its stand this year.

Food also illustrates the scope of the missions of ANSES, which provides its scientific expertise at all stages of the food chain, from the production of food of animal or plant origin to the consumer’s plate. Its scope includes, in particular, the scientific assessment of health risks and nutritional qualities, the health of farmed animals, vigilance and support for public decision-makers in the event of a health crisis, the production of benchmarks for government recommendations food, as well as studies and observatories useful to food professionals.

With his vision to 360° of the issues related to health and food, ANSES actively contributes to responding to societal concerns the most current, with for example work on microplastics, endocrine disruptors, food supplements, nanomaterials in food or even the well-being of farmed animals.

During this period of French presidency of the Council of the European Union, ANSES will also be available to the public – families, professionals, elected officials, etc. – to discuss its action beyond borders as a benchmark player for research, monitoring and health expertise.
