OQEI was launched within the framework of an agreement signed by Anses and CSTB, together with the Ministry of Ecology, Health and Labor and ADEME, with the aim of Assess and monitor air and indoor space qualitypublic or private, to determine health risks and Propose effective solutions to alleviate them.

« Home, office, school…, everyone spends an average of 85% of their time in a closed environment affected by a variety of biological, physical and chemical factors. All these parameters must be evaluated to control contamination that may harm health or cause discomfort. In the context of climate change, energy conservation and social development, OQEI aims to play a leading role as a decision-making tool and public policy support. » stressed Etienne Crépon, President of CSTB.

Inherited Indoor Air Quality Observatory (OQAI)OQEI involves expand scope For all topics affecting the comfort and health of occupants in enclosed environments: Air quality, dust, noise, natural and artificial light, electromagnetic fields, thermal comfort.

« By extending the scope of action of the observatories (so far limited to air quality) and other important health risk factors, we provide ourselves with the means to better understand their true overall impact on health and enrich our knowledge of the exposome understanding that combines all exposures across an individual’s lifetime to better protect the health of our fellow citizens », says Anses General Manager Benoît Vallet.

OQEI’s scope, mission, transversal approach and commitment to making the most of its work enable it to Europe’s unique reference science resource center.

By relying on a network of scientific and operational partners, the Observatory aims to collect, aggregate and generate reliable and consistent data and knowledge from existing bases or research or through the implementation of country-specific measures.

His works will be made available to scientific community, public authorities, communities, professionals and citizensthrough websites, public digital platforms and even theme announcements.

The first construction work of OQEI revolves around:

Establish a scientific resource center to provide data and lessons learned from the National Housing Campaign; identify priority activities related to indoor environmental quality, especially annual deployment activities; use data from previous campaigns, such as that of the National Housing Campaign2; conduct dedicated Topic-specific indoor air quality measurement activities.

By documenting population exposure to risk factors relevant to health risk assessment, OQEI will be able to highlight emerging issues and thereby predict resulting health risks.
