ANSES, 10 years of action on air quality | handles

Air pollution includes multiple pollutants (fine particles, nitrogen oxides, volatile organic compounds, ozone, etc.) which are already known to have many harmful effects on health (respiratory, cardiovascular, neurological effects, etc. .). If outdoor pollution, linked in particular to car traffic, factories, heating or fires, is the one that comes to mind most spontaneously, air pollution also concerns the interior space of our homes and workplaces. , because certain materials and human activities emit pollutants in enclosed spaces.

For more than ten years, the Agency has been working on the development of indoor air quality guideline values (VGAI) for substances identified as particularly problematic in indoor environments. IAGVs have thus been proposed for 13 substances. In 2019, the IAGVs for trichlorethylene that had been proposed in 2009 were updated on the basis of continuous scientific monitoring provided by the Agency. Furthermore, in conjunction with research structures and air monitoring stakeholders, ANSES’s work contributes to improving scientific knowledge as well as public policies and regulatory texts applied to air quality. air, targeting in particular the pollutants of concern.
