ANP: port traffic down 1.2% at the end of August 2022

Kiosk360. At the end of last August, port traffic recorded a drop of 1.2%, according to indications from the National Ports Agency (ANP). This article is a press review of the daily newspaperAujourd’hui le Maroc.

Port traffic is experiencing a slight slowdown at the end of August 2022. “According to data from the National Ports Agency (ANP), the overall volume of goods having passed through the ports it manages amounts to more than 60.91 million tons against 61.01 in the same period last year”. The information was reported by Morocco today in its September 26 edition. Two ports represent 68% of global traffic during the first eight months of the year. These are the ports of Jorf Lasfar and Casablanca.

The port enclosure of Jorf Lasfar monopolized 38.7% of global traffic, 23.33 million tonnes of goods (-0.1%). It also recorded an export volume down by 16% and an import volume up by 6.5%. For its part, the port of Casablanca handled 29.3% of overall traffic, 17.63 million tonnes (-12.2%), an export volume down by 37.3% and an export volume import growth of 12.21%.

Also in the ranking, the ports of Safi (Safi Ville and Safi Nouveau port) representing 11% of overall traffic, with an export volume down 8.9% (4.14 million tonnes) and imports up 17.7% (2.4 million tonnes), the port of Agadir, 7.2% of overall traffic with more than 4.31 million tonnes (18.4%) (+ 34.1 % in exports and + 9.6% in imports).

By packaging method, solid bulk holds a share of 59.9% (35.88 million tonnes, down 4.9%). They are followed by liquid bulk with 21.9% of overall traffic (13.18 million tonnes, up 8%) and by containers with 13.8 of overall traffic (8.34 million tonnes, down 0.4%) during the first eight months of the year.

As for passenger traffic, it grew by 977% with 963,453 passengers passing through the ports managed by the ANP against 89,458 passengers in the same period last year.
