another migrant Venezuelan died in the Darien jungle, between Colombia and Panama. Gabriel Ignacio Guevara Sulbarán, originally from the city of Maracay, in the state of Aragua, was in Ecuador. But he decided together with some friends, who were also in that country, to begin the dangerous journey to the United States.
The citizen, according to what was outlined by Core News, suffered a heart attack. He was married and had a daughter. Relatives indicated to the digital medium that the last time they had contact with the victim was on July 14. That day, he told them that he was entering the plug. Then they lost communication.
They estimated that the migrant might cross the Darién in three days, but they received no news. It was on Wednesday, July 20, a week later, that they learned that the man had died. The relatives recognized that the people who die in the Darién are buried in that same jungle because of how difficult it is to access.
More than 70 disappeared
In past days a list of more than 70 Venezuelans was released they would be missing in the plug. The name of Gabriel Ignacio Guevara Sulbarán did not appear in it, so it is presumed that the number of people who did not communicate once more with his relatives might be higher.
The time to cross the jungle varies according to weather conditions and the possibilities of the migrants themselves. In a report of the digital mediumal All News, Journalist Carolina Amoroso spoke with a Venezuelan family: a man and a woman who were walking with their two small children. They estimated a time of at least 10 days to proceed calmly, considering that they had the children with them.
This year they have crossed the jungle, hell as its survivors describe it, more than 46,000 irregular migrants, the majority Haitians and Venezuelans who travel to the United States or Canada for better living conditions.
