Another standstill at Tesla in Shanghai – were…

In the past quarter, Tesla delivered more vehicles than ever before, as was announced at the beginning of April. A total of 310,000 cars drove to customers in the first three months. That was around 1,000 more than experts expected and around 1,500 more than in the final quarter of 2021. Deliveries in the first quarter increased by two thirds within a year.

Even as the list of obstacles for Tesla grows longer, the demand is high according to analysts. However, a problem could develop if the two plants that have just opened in Grünheide near Berlin and Austin in the US state of Texas cannot be started up quickly enough. At the same time, raw and energy costs are rising rapidly.

Despite increasing difficulties, analysts believed Tesla was capable of a sharp increase in deliveries this year. Morgan Stanley, for example, expected 1.46 million vehicles, which would correspond to an increase of 56 percent compared to 2021. It should be noted that the figures were announced before the renewed standstill and assumed full capacity utilization.

But if the analysts are about right, Tesla would grow by more than 50 percent annually in the range promised by CEO Elon Musk.

Tesla would thus come within reach of the VW premium subsidiary Audi, which brought almost 1.7 million vehicles to its customers last year. Even premium manufacturers such as BMW and Mercedes-Benz would then not be far ahead. (apa/red)
