Another opportunity to receive funding for the control of invasive species!

Evita Jaņeviča, project manager of the Environment Department of LLKC, LIFE-IP LatViaNature project expert: “We are announcing the supplementary round of the second call, because of the four project applications received, only two have been submitted for approval. Thus, funding is currently available for the implementation of at least four more projects. It is also possible to apply already known restriction methods, as an emphasis on innovation, putting the time and frequency of application of the method or combining them with other methods to achieve a better result.”

Priority will be given to those projects designed to control flower spike, spiked currant, Canadian goldenrod, ash maple and curled rose. On the other hand, in terms of territory, watercourses, water bodies and their shores, specially protected natural territories, as well as territories ecologically related to them, are prioritized. Ideas can also be submitted for any other invasive species found on the Invasive Species Manager website.

The funding for the implementation of one project is between 1000 and 5000 EUR, with the amount of support up to 100%. If the project is approved, it must be implemented within two years from the signing of the contract.

The purpose of the competition is to support projects that test new, effective, nature-friendly and economically useful methods and approaches for limiting invasive species. Individuals and legal entities, as well as cooperation groups (including local governments), can submit ideas for self-invented, previously unused or little-used methods in Latvia.

The competition is implemented within the LIFE-IP LatViaNature project and its total funding is 20,000 EUR. The idea application can be submitted by sending it to the e-mail address [email protected] (it must be signed with a secure electronic signature) or by delivering it to the nearest LLKC office. Before submitting an idea, we invite you to familiarize yourself with the Regulations. Detailed information is available HERE.
