Sedan Lexus IS changed generation two years ago, although in fact it was a deep modernization of the previous model. And here is a related coupe Lexus RC is still in service and is not going to rest yet. Apparently, even rich Toyota does not see the point in investing in a large-scale update of this niche model, because since 2014 only 74,000 “civilian” RC models and 11,000 “charged” two-door RC F have been sold worldwide. Therefore, instead of developing a new generation another modernization of the existing coupe was carried out.
They didn’t touch the exterior, and the main change in the cabin is the touch screen of the media system instead of a passive display. The size has not changed (10.3 inches), but for ease of use it has been moved closer to the driver, so now the screen is not recessed into the front panel, but rises above it. At the same time, the touch panel on the central tunnel is preserved. In the RC F version, in addition, the gearshift paddles have been changed. Finally, the Lexus Safety System + electronic complex has been expanded.
Engineers once once more worked on the driving character of the coupe. The power steering was recalibrated, the settings of electronic assistants were revised, and the design of the wheel hubs was also changed: the wheels are now mounted not on studs, but on bolts (the same metamorphosis happened, for example, in a crossover Lexus NX new generation). It is stated that this change also had a positive effect on handling. Lexus RC F, in addition, has found new springs and stabilizers, plus it has “optimized” body amplifiers.
The range of modifications is the same, and in Japan the Lexus RC is offered only with rear-wheel drive, although there are all-wheel drive versions in other markets. The range includes modifications RC 300 (2.0 l, 245 hp), RC 300h (hybrid, 223 hp), RC 350 (3.5 l, 318 hp) and RC F (5 .0 l, 481 hp). Four- and six-cylinder cars can be ordered with the F Sport package, while the eight-cylinder RC F coupes are offered with the Carbon Exterior package and Performance package.
