The rally was once more organized by the Islamist group Muslim Interaktiv in Hamburg. The participants were almost exclusively men. AContrary to what the registrant had requested, the meeting was only allowed to take place as a stationary rally; a demonstration was not permitted.
Two weeks ago, a Muslim Interactive rally in Hamburg also sparked outrage. At the time, signs read “Caliphate is the solution.” One of the conditions this time was the ban on calling for a caliphate in Germany. As with the demonstration at the end of April, it was not allowed to call for hatred and violence or to deny Israel’s right to exist.
On the sidelines of the meeting, which was announced under the title “Against Censorship and Opinion Dictation,” the police positioned water cannons, among other things. Some counter-demonstrators also gathered nearby.
