Almost two weeks following the deadly shooting at a school in Belgrade, the death toll has risen to ten. According to Serbian state television, another girl succumbed to her severe head injuries on Monday. The broadcaster did not name her age.
On May 3, a 13-year-old killed eight classmates between the ages of 11 and 14 and a security guard with his father’s gun. Less than 48 hours later, a 21-year-old shot dead eight people in several villages near Belgrade.
Head of state Aleksandar Vucic then announced an “almost complete disarmament” of private individuals, and the Serbian education minister resigned following mass protests. According to government information, more than 760,000 firearms are registered in the Balkan country with its 6.8 million inhabitants.
