Another eight kilometers of bike paths in Riga

The Riga Municipality has completed the installation of bicycle infrastructure on three routes in Āgenskalns and Ķīpsala, in Mežciems, as well as in Čiekurkalns and Mežaparks, with a total length of eight kilometres.

The work began in the spring and was completed in June, increasing the total cycling infrastructure network in Riga by eight kilometres.

In Āgenskalns and Ķīpsala, the cycling infrastructure has been installed on the Balasta dambis section from Krišjana Valdemāra Street to Daugavgrīvas Street. It connects the cycling route between the Vanšu Bridge and Uzvaras Park, where there used to be a gap. The new cycling route provides easy access to the future Press House quarter, the Swedbank office and the beach in Ķīpsala. The cycling paths add 1.3 kilometres to the Pārdaugava cycling network.

In the Mežciems microdistrict, cycling infrastructure was created along the entire length of Gaiļezera Street. Two one-way cycling paths were installed on the street, while maintaining the existing number of lanes, which added 1.1 kilometers to the existing network.

In Čiekurkalns and Mežaparks, cycling infrastructure was installed on Viskaļu and Ezermalas streets. Two one-way cycling paths were built on these streets, adding 5.6 kilometres to the existing cycling infrastructure network. The cycling paths connect the neighbourhoods and provide easy and safe access to recreation areas and public facilities.

The immediate plans include the creation of bicycle paths and improvement of infrastructure on Purviša, Dzirnavu streets and the 11th November Embankment, where the existing section of the bicycle path will be extended, said Olafs Pulks, head of the Riga City Council Committee on Communications and Transport.
