Sun and vitamin in your life. This is what the new winter 2024 programming of the University of the Third Age (UTA) of the Victoriaville branch and its region offers you.

What’s better than staying active during the cold season: following walking or skiing, why not take a break to keep your mind sharp and alert, continue learning and share your experiences and passions with other people.

The winter 2024 program

In Victoriaville, two courses are on the program for the session starting January 31, 2024: The major issues of criminal and penal policies with Daniel Richard-Pelchat who will talk to us regarding these subjects that are omnipresent in the news and which raise important ethical and moral debates ; Quebec, from time to time with Gaëtan St-Arnaud who will present to us the highlights of the history of Quebec: the natives, the fur trade, the country priest, etc.

A two-part conference on Démocratie.com with Noémie Verhoef whose presentation will focus on the issues specific to socio-digital democracies. An “Art and culture” block with two presentations on Quebec comics, its origins until today with Michel Viau and Introduction to rock art: overview of the different traditions around the globe with Adelphine Bonneau.

And finally, two unitary conferences: 1914-1918: Four years of technological, scientific and medical evolution with Pierre Bernard who will show us how such a murderous war changed medicine, hygiene practices on the front, etc., and Pesticides and ethical issues in agronomy research in Quebec with Louis Robert who will explain to us how researchers and extension workers must collaborate closely, in particular to denounce situations where there is interference.

In Plessisville, two blocks of two conferences, the first block focusing on “Health” will present Pain in the Elderly with Guillaume Léonard who will address the problem of chronic pain, the different tools to assess and relieve it; and Discovering the microbiota with Isabelle Laforest-Lapointe who will take us into the world of microorganisms, the roles of microbes in the development of the immune system early in life, etc.

The second block “History and legend” will focus on The search for Atlantis with André Pelchat who will talk to us regarding this continent forgotten for centuries: is it a myth or reality? And what does science say regarding it? And Frontenac, this great unknown with Roger Barrette who will introduce us to a colorful character at the head of New France for almost 20 years.
