Another bad news on store shelves? Prices for toilet paper, tissues and diapers could rise sharply

Toilet paper, tissues and diapers might become more expensive due to a global shortage of paper pulp. Suzano, one of the biggest companies in the sector, warns consumers. According to the Brazilian company, the war in Ukraine also plays a decisive role here.

Russia is a major timber supplier to Europe. However, due to sanctions once morest that country, trade has come to a complete halt and many pulp producers, especially in Scandinavia, have cut production, Suzano CEO Walter Schalka said on Friday. “Paper pulp stocks are gradually decreasing, until they reach a possible point of shortage. It can happen,” he warned.

Combined with strong demand, the price of pulp has already increased by 40% in China this year. But this price increase will not immediately reduce demand, thinks Suzano: “After all, toilet paper and nappies are essential”.
