Unique testimony, the Shoah through the eyes of an African woman deported to Auschwitz.
ABIDJAN, Ivory Coast, April 11, 2024 /African Media Agency (AMA)/- We are pleased to announce the imminent release of the historical novel entitled “Thieves of Souls”, written by Gabriel Souleyka. This captivating novel immerses its readers in the heart of the turbulent story of Awa and Ibrahim, a couple confronted with the tragedies of the Second World War.
The story takes place in 1939 as Awa and Ibrahim celebrate their wedding. However, their happiness is short-lived when war breaks out, and Ibrahim is sent to fight in France. In the tumults of war, he disappeared in 1940, leaving Awa in deep sadness.
Determined to find her husband at all costs, Awa decides to follow the rector of the Paris mosque during his visit to Dakar. She arrived in Paris in January 1942, determined to discover Ibrahim’s fate. Hosted by a Jewish family, she joined the active resistance at the Paris mosque. For months, she participated in efforts to rescue and welcome Jews hidden at the mosque.
However, on July 16, 1942, their world turned upside down when Awa was arrested with the other Jews of Paris, because she was wearing a yellow star. Interned in Drancy, she was then deported to Auschwitz with a thousand other people. There, in the horror of the camps, Awa miraculously finds Ibrahim, interned for a year. Together, they will now try everything to survive and share their testimony regarding the horror of the Shoah.
“Thieves of Souls” is much more than a simple historical novel; it is a poignant tale of courage, love and resilience in the face of adversity. We are convinced that this story will touch you and captivate your readers. The treatment addresses this brotherhood between Jews, Muslims and Christians in the face of Nazi barbarism.
We invite you to discover this unforgettable novel as soon as it is released. For any request for an interview with the author or to obtain press copies, do not hesitate to contact us. We are convinced that this major work will help build bridges between communities, reminding us that in the face of this genocide, resistance fighters rose up, that the testimony of the horrors of the Shoah must remain constant so as to never forget.
