The Extortion Prosecution Department of the Attica Security Directorate arrested -4- people for their involvement in two different cases of placing and activating explosive devices, which took place at a petrol station in Piraeus as well as a liquor cellar in Kallithea.
These are two 37-year-old foreigners, who are accused of their involvement in the case of the explosion at the gas station, as well as a 35-year-old foreigner and a 39-year-old citizen, who were found to be involved in the case of the explosion at the liquor cellar in Kallithea.
In particular, as emerged from the preliminary investigation, early in the morning of 08-03-2024, the two 37-year-old foreigners, wearing helmets and riding a two-wheeled motorcycle, approached the gas station in Piraeus, and planted an Improvised Explosive Device (IED). .) on a plot adjacent to the gas station. They then turned it on and fled on the same motorcycle.
In fact, before and following the explosion, the aforementioned perpetrators moved with two vehicles, which were rented with false information, while from the place where A.E.M. was taken, they also hid the motorcycle in question in the same place.
For the case of the explosion in the liquor cellar in Kallithea, it emerged that, in the early morning hours of 11-03-2024, the 35-year-old foreigner and the 39-year-old citizen approached the cellar in question on a two-wheeled motorcycle. Subsequently, the 39-year-old citizen, following getting off the motorcycle – owned by him – installed and activated an A.E.M. at the entrance of the cellar and then both escaped on the same motorcycle.
It should be noted that in both cases, due to the location of the explosive devices, a person might be injured, while extensive material damage was caused to the front of the gas station, the cellar, as well as to adjacent shops, apartments and vehicles .
At the same time, in the context of the investigations, it was established that the A.E.M. activated in these two cases consisted of a large amount of explosive material, a common detonator and a slow-burning fuse, while they were detonated using an open flame.
The arrested persons were located and arrested in the context of coordinated police operations that took place at noon yesterday (29-04-2024) and in the morning hours today (30-04-2024), in areas of Attica, while a case file was filed once morest them for -if applicable- detonation, manufacture and possession of explosives and incendiary materials, damage to foreign property as well as contravention of firearms legislation and drug legislation.
In addition, in the context of yesterday’s police operation, one of the 37-year-old foreigners tried to escape by running and when he was stopped, he put up a strong resistance by hitting the policemen, while the other 37-year-old foreigner – for whom two convictions were actually obtained – demonstrated fake passport and driver’s license.
For these reasons, a case file was filed once morest them and – as the case may be – violence once morest officials and judicial persons as well as forgery.
Also, during today’s police operation, a 23-year-old citizen was additionally arrested, as in his vehicle – in which he was spotted together with the 35-year-old foreigner – a mobile phone, two fake license plates and a pistol with a magazine with three cartridges were found and confiscated.
In physical searches as well as in house searches that were carried out, the following were found and seized:
telephone set, -10- mobile phones, SIM card frame,
improvised package with heroin with a total gross weight of 5.9 grams,
400 euros,
2 folding knives, gun holster, -112- ammo,
a number of handwritten notes with entries of shops, sums of money, names and telephone numbers,
clothing and footwear including a blouse worn by the perpetrator during the explosion,
2 fake passports, fake driver’s license and photocopies of 2 fake special certificates of legal residence,
abundance of anabolic substances,
Bulletproof vest,
black waist belt with built-in knife, purse,
2 radios and flashlight-beacon.
The arrested persons, who have been of concern to the authorities in the past for a number of offences, were taken to the competent prosecuting authority, while the investigation continues to fully ascertain the scope of their criminal activity.
