JR Hokkaido has announced the exterior design plan and the outline of the station as a whole because the design of Sapporo Station on the Hokkaido Shinkansen has been undertaken on behalf of the Railway and Transportation Organization.

The design concept is “Bridge of the Earth”, which is designed to be the new face of Sapporo facing the Sosei River as a bridge connecting the vibrant cityscape of Sapporo and the magnificent nature of Hokkaido. For the interior, we will create stations in collaboration with the local community, such as using materials related to Hokkaido and Sapporo (wood from Hokkaido, red bricks, soft stones in Sapporo, etc.).

The Shinkansen ticket gate is connected to the atrium space of the redevelopment building. This makes it possible to transfer smoothly to various means of transportation such as subways, buses, and taxis. In addition, the Shinkansen will be overlooked from this atrium space so that you can experience the Shinkansen closer to you.

A transfer bridge will be set up so that the Shinkansen station can be accessed directly from each platform of the conventional line. Escalators and elevators will be installed in each platform to ensure barrier-free access. In addition, by setting the passage width of this line bridge to regarding 9 m, a generous width is secured.
At the request of Sapporo City, the Shinkansen East ticket gate will be set up. The transportation plaza leading to this ticket gate is scheduled to be developed by Sapporo City, and as a new starting point for the Sosei East area, a new public transportation system that takes advantage of the LRT that Sapporo City is considering in addition to taxis and private cars, etc. Connection with various traffic modes of is being studied.
A moving walkway of regarding 185m (concourse floor: extension 130m / home floor: extension 55m) will be installed on the Shinkansen station building and platform so that it can move smoothly when transferring between the Shinkansen and the conventional line.
Regarding the construction plan within 2022 (Reiwa 4), signal construction for conventional lines will be carried out from April to May, and construction of the Shinkansen viaduct (Nishi 1-chome) will begin around June. The use of the conventional line No. 11 will start around October, and the construction of the Shinkansen viaduct (East 1-chome) will start around autumn. The opening time is scheduled for the end of 2030 (Reiwa 12).
