A few weeks ago, Ubisoft took the floor to announce very bad news: 15 games will close their online servers, including several classics such as Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood and ANNO 2070. But that was without counting on a small turnaround in last minute…

A bit of reprieve for many Ubisoft games

On July 4, Ubisoft announced that from September 1, several games will have their online features deactivated, starting with Assassin’s Creed 3, but also Brotherhood, Far Cry 3 and ANNO 2070.

Closing online services for some older games allows us to focus our resources on providing great experiences for players playing newer or more popular titles. To help us achieve this goal, a number of older titles will be added to our list of deprecated online services. Ubisoft

But today, small reversal of situations. Except for Space Junkies which really closes its doors tomorrow, all other games have had their online services shutdown date pushed back a month.

Last month, we informed you regarding the retirement of online services for certain older Ubisoft games as of September 1, 2022. We do not take the retirement of online services for older games lightly, but it’s also a necessity, as the technology that powers these services becomes obsolete. Over the past month, our teams have been working hard to explore opportunities to reduce disruption. As a result, we have postponed the decommissioning date from September 1, 2022 to October 1, 2022. If you were planning to play a few games on Assassin’s Creed multiplayer modes or if you were aiming to get the DLCs of certain games on PC, so you have a little more time, until October 1, 2022.

If you own these games on PC, activate your DLC before the online services close on October 1, 2022 to continue playing. There will be no impact to the same single-player DLCs on consoles, and you can continue to download and play them following October 1, 2022. Ubisoft

ANNO 2070, a game saved from sinking

But ultimately, the big news is not the respite harvested by all the games mentioned above, but the fact that ANNO 2070 is, for its part, completely saved. Ubisoft has effectively announced that there is no longer talk of closure for ANNO 2070. The latter will even be entitled to an update to replace its old multiplayer services. In other words, the game will still be playable online following October 1, 2022.

Additionally, an active game team is still working on ANNO at Ubisoft Mainz, and a task force has been tasked with rolling out an update for ANNO 2070. It will upgrade the game and replace old online services, allowing players to enjoy its online features in the future. Ubisoft
