Anniversary of the Balfour Declaration…a huge march in London in solidarity with Gaza and demonstrators remove the statue of the first Israeli president

The march was organized by the Palestine Solidarity Coalition in Britain, which includes the Palestinian Forum in Britain (PFB), the Palestine Solidarity Campaign (PSC), the Islamic League of Britain (MAB), and the Stop the War Coalition. The War Coalition), the Friends of Al-Aqsa Association (FOA), and the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (CND).

The march seeks to put pressure on the British government to stop its support for Israel and to call on the United States to end its continued military support for Tel Aviv.

Pro-Palestinian activists from the “Palestine Action” group posted photos on Saturday on social media, with some activists scrawling graffiti on walls near Jewish charities.

The group targeted the offices of the Jewish National Fund, accusing the organization of “collecting money to demolish Palestinian homes and build settlements on stolen Palestinian land, which is a recognized war crime.”

A video clip also spread on social media documenting the moment of smashing the glass in the room containing the statue of the first president of Israel, Chaim Weizmann, and removing it from its place, which was located on the campus of the University of Manchester in Britain.

Weizmann played a prominent role in issuing the Balfour Declaration 107 years ago, which granted the “right of the Jews” to the Palestinian territories.

This march comes at a time when international warnings are increasing regarding the deteriorating humanitarian conditions in Gaza.

The Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip announced that the death toll from the ongoing Israeli bombing of the Strip reached 43,314 deaths and 102,019 injuries since October 7, 2023.

**Interview with Maria Abu Shakir, Activist with the Palestine Solidarity Campaign**

**Editor:** Thank you‌ for joining us today, ⁣Maria. Can⁢ you ‌tell us a bit about the recent march organized by⁤ the Palestine⁣ Solidarity‌ Coalition in Britain?

**Maria Abu ‍Shakir:** Thank you for having me! The march was ⁣a powerful demonstration, united by various⁤ organizations, including the Palestinian Forum in Britain, the Palestine⁢ Solidarity Campaign, ⁢and several others. We aimed to raise awareness⁢ about the ongoing‌ Israeli occupation ‍and call for a ⁣change in government policy, particularly urging the UK to reconsider‍ its support ⁤for Israel.

**Editor:** What specific changes are you hoping to achieve through this march?

**Maria Abu‌ Shakir:** Our⁤ main⁣ goal is to ⁤put pressure on the British government to end ⁤its unconditional ⁤support for Israel.‌ We believe that this support enables the continuation of occupation and ⁣injustice against the Palestinian people. Additionally, we are calling on the United States to reassess its financial and military‌ assistance ⁣to Israel to ensure that it aligns with international⁢ law and human rights.

**Editor:** How do⁣ you see the role of grassroots movements like yours in influencing government policy?

**Maria Abu Shakir:** Grassroots movements are crucial because they amplify the voices of those who are directly affected by government policies. By organizing ⁢marches, campaigns, and community events, we can engage the public, raise awareness, and apply pressure on policymakers. Ultimately, our goal⁤ is to build a broad-based‌ coalition that demands justice and‌ accountability from⁤ our ⁢governments.

**Editor:** ‍Are there any specific actions that individuals can take to support this cause?

**Maria Abu Shakir:** Absolutely! People can get involved by joining our campaigns, educating themselves and others about⁢ the issues, and reaching ‌out to ⁣their local representatives to ⁣advocate for policy changes.⁤ Additionally, supporting⁢ businesses that do not ⁤profit from the occupation ⁢and participating in boycott campaigns can make a significant impact.

**Editor:** Thank you ⁢for sharing your insights, Maria. ⁢It’s clear that the march is part of a broader effort to seek justice for Palestine.

**Maria ‌Abu Shakir:** Thank you for ⁢having me. Together, we can make ⁢a difference!
