For 70 years, the ÖHV has represented the interests of the local hotel industry and tourism at the forefront.
Vienna (OTS) – On May 31, 1953, the inaugural meeting of the Austrian Hoteliers’ Association took place in Innsbruck, chaired by the Viennese hotelier Leopold Nedomansky. The aim was to make the interests of one’s own industry heard and to help shape the economic framework together, voluntarily and independently of political parties. 70 years later, nothing has changed, ÖHV President Walter Veit has just grown significantly: “Together with a strong voice at the forefront for the interests of the hotel industry is still one of our very own tasks and is deep in our DNA anchored. In the meantime, however, the ÖHV is much more than that and is shaping the sustainable future of the industry.”
Full service tourism organization
With over 1,000 training participants every year, the ÖHV campus is the largest ISO-certified training provider in the hotel industry. More than 70 partners and consultants support ÖHV members with quality and know-how in all areas of daily business. The ÖHV Congress with more than 600 participants from business, politics and the media has been a fixed date for the industry for years. They are also active on a European level: At the beginning of the month, the ÖHV organized the first Green Tourism Conference in Vienna. “These developments make us very proud. But we don’t want to rest on our laurels,” says Veit, focusing on the challenges of the coming years. The mega trends of sustainability and digitization will continue to shape the industry and it is important to be prepared for this, emphasizes the ÖHV President.
Strong sign: 1,700 members
Veit is particularly pleased that the ÖHV broke the 1,700 member mark in the anniversary month of May: “In times when companies tend to tighten their belts rather than bear additional costs such as voluntary memberships, this is a great confirmation of our work. Thank you for your trust!” With its 1,700 members, the ÖHV represents approx. 209,000 beds, which corresponds to around half the capacity in the 4- to 5-star hotel industry. The members employ around 62,000 people across Austria and come 72% from the holiday and 28% from the city hotel industry. At 85%, the proportion of private hotels predominates in the ÖHV, while 15% of the members belong to group hotels. The increasing importance as a representation of interests for tourism also shows that, in addition to accommodation establishments, more and more tourism schools and regions are using the ÖHV’s range of services. All ÖHV members are under listed.
