Annalena Baerbock, courageous diplomacy

During this first week of January, Time devotes four portraits
to women and men who have been very discreet so far, but who will make a name for themselves in the news of the year 2023.

It was her first appearance at the Palais des Nations in Geneva as head of German diplomacy. Annalena Baerbock, 42, with sooty hair, spoke with force and conviction before the UN Human Rights Council during its special session devoted to the brutality committed by the Iranian regime against protesters who yearn for freedom. At ease in front of the press, she sometimes expresses herself in a beautiful northern German, sometimes in an English that she refined during a school year spent in Florida, and two semesters at the London School of Economics.
