ACTRESS Anna Kendrick, 39, has decided to donate the money she makes from her new film to victims of violent crime. This was done after Netflix bought the film Woman of the Hour, starring and directed by Kendrick. The film premiered at the 2023 Toronto Film Festival.
Kendrick donated his earnings from the film to the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network (RAINN), and The National Center for Victims of Violent Crime.
Kendrick recalled that when he took the film to the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) last year, he didn’t think it would be a money-making venture. He admitted that he had devoted all his resources to making the film.

“Just (just) a week before TIFF, I thought ‘Oh, this film is going to make money’. “Oh my God, I’m responsible for this and then it’s like, ‘Oh, there’s going to be an exchange of money,’ and I ask myself, ‘Are you disgusted by this?’,” Kendrick said as reported by People, Thursday (31 /10).
He admitted that he had no intention of making money from the film. “The money will be distributed or has been distributed to RAINN and The National Center for Victims of Violent Crime. This is complicated territory but it felt like it was what I had to do,” said Kendrick.
Woman of the Hour was inspired by the story of Cheryl Bradshaw and her encounter with Rodney Alcala, a real-life serial killer in the 1970s.

In the film, Kendrick’s character is cast in an episode of The Dating Game and meets Alcala after he is selected as a regular contestant amidst “a year of murder,” as written in the official synopsis for the film.
The film, which also stars Tony Hale, Daniel Zovatto, Nicolette Robinson, Pete Holmes, Autumn Best, Kathryn Gallagher and Kelley Jakle, traces Alcala’s murders during the 1970s and his encounters with Bradshaw during and after the taping of the Dating Game episode.
The new film marks Kendrick’s directorial debut. He said he really had fun making period songs and playing everything like it was from the seventies. Woman of the Hour is out on Netflix. (Z-1)
