Türkiye will continue to broadcast Israel’s attacks to the world as Tel Aviv, backed by Western media and governments, systematically targets journalists to hide the truth. This was said by Communications Director Fahrettin Altun, Tuesday (8/10).

“We will continue to expose and oppose the crimes and double standards of global networks that remain silent while nearly 200 journalists are killed in Gaza,” Altun said. “Just as we kept the channels of communication open in Gaza, we will do the same in the West Bank, Jerusalem and Lebanon. We will continue to report Israeli attacks to the world,” Altun added.

“Israel, with the support of Western media and governments, has carried out a systematic campaign of violence against journalists to suppress the truth,” he said in a speech at the 10th TRT Future Communicators Awards ceremony.

Since October 7, Israel has killed nearly 200 journalists in Gaza, including Anadolu’s own reporter, Hasan Hamad, who was deliberately targeted while photographing recent airstrikes. He emphasized that while Israeli forces continue to deliberately target journalists as well as health care workers, women and children, Western governments and their media outlets have increased their support for Israel’s actions.

Altun also referred to the protests of Salman Al-Bashir, a Gaza correspondent for Palestine TV, who protested the killing by removing his press vest during a broadcast. “The truth will not be buried. Israel will continue to face the reality of its war crimes,” he said.

Altun also reiterated Türkiye’s commitment to exposing injustices in Gaza and its surroundings, saying, “We will keep communication channels open and continue to report Israeli attacks to the world.”

“Our fight for truth and justice will continue in the region as we work towards lasting peace and stability, as outlined by our President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan,” Altun said.

Israel continues to launch brutal attacks on Gaza following an attack by the Palestinian resistance group Hamas on October 7, 2023, despite a UN Security Council resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire. Nearly 42,000 people have died since then, most of them women and children, and nearly 97,600 people have been injured, according to local health authorities. (Ant/Z-2)

In a recent statement, Communications Director Fahrettin Altun of Turkey declared that the country would continue to expose and broadcast Israel’s attacks to the world, in light of the systematic targeting of journalists by Tel Aviv. This announcement comes amidst the backdrop of escalating tensions between Turkey and Israel.

It is essential to understand the historical context of Turkey-Israel relations to fully grasp the implications of this statement. Despite their differences, Turkey and Israel had a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) signed on March 14, 1996, which came into effect on January 1, 1997 [[2]]. However, their relations have deteriorated significantly in recent years.

Turkey’s statement may be seen as an attempt to shed light on the alleged human rights abuses committed by Israel, as well as the reported targeting of journalists covering the conflict in Gaza. According to Altun, nearly 200 journalists have been killed in Gaza, and Turkey intends to continue reporting on Israeli attacks to the world, despite the challenges.

In another recent development, it has been reported that Turkey is not showing significant sympathy towards Hezbollah losses, despite its anti-Israel stance [[3]]. This ambivalence highlights the complexities of Turkey’s relationships with various actors in the region.

Erdogan’s government has also dropped hints on potentially taking action against Israel amidst Hezbollah’s large-scale attack [[1]]. This development underscores the shifting dynamics in the region and Turkey’s willingness to take a stance on the issue.

Turkey’s decision to continue broadcasting Israeli attacks to the world highlights the deepening divide between Turkey and Israel. Turkey’s stance on the issue, combined with its willingness to take action against Israel, demonstrates its commitment to shedding light on the alleged human rights abuses committed by Israel and its willingness to take a stand in the region.
