Ankara hosts Turkish-Iraqi parliamentary discussions

Turkey – Deputy Speaker of the Turkish Parliament, Bakir Bozdag, met yesterday, Thursday, with the Acting Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament, Mohsen Al-Mandalawi, in the capital, Ankara.

Before the start of the meeting in the Turkish Parliament, Bozdag stressed in a press statement the importance of strengthening parliamentary relations between the two countries.

He pointed to a visit that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan intends to make to Iraq during the next few days.

He stressed that the visit is an important indicator of the support that Türkiye provides to Iraq and the importance it attaches to bilateral relations.

He expressed his confidence that the visit would make a contribution to deepening and developing bilateral relations in various fields.

He stated that “it is in the interest of the two countries to move jointly in the fight once morest terrorism,” stressing the need to strengthen close cooperation in this framework.

In turn, the Acting Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament affirmed that Turkey is a “partner country” for his country, expressing his interest in relations with Turkey.

On the other hand, Bozdag pointed out that the region is going through a difficult stage, especially the “genocide” committed by Israel in the Gaza Strip.

In this context, he pointed out that countries around the world support Israel despite these “violations,” and that other countries remain silent.

The Turkish parliamentarian stressed the need to take action “to stop the genocide, brutality and injustice committed by Israel.”

He said: “We in Türkiye are trying to do our best to participate in this mobilization and do what is necessary.”

In this context, Bozdag also stressed the need for the Islamic world to unify its efforts and goals, and take joint action in coordination between its countries.

He added that reaching a permanent ceasefire, and ensuring that all necessary humanitarian aid reaches Gaza without interruption and without hindrance, constitutes the “top priority” at the present time.

He stressed that “the practices of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu fall under the heading of ethnic and geographic cleansing,” under the pretext of eliminating the Hamas movement.

He pointed out that Israel had committed a “crime once morest humanity and genocide,” and stressed that international organizations had shown their inability in this regard.

He stressed the need for a two-state solution in the region, and the need to end illegal settlement activities and transfer the lands seized by force to their Palestinian owners.

“It is also necessary to protect all our holy places, especially Al-Aqsa Mosque,” ​​Bozdag said.

Since October 7, the Israeli army has been waging a devastating war on Gaza, leaving tens of thousands dead and wounded, most of them children and women, which necessitated the trial of Tel Aviv before the International Court of Justice on the grounds of “genocide.”
