Adoptions, inspections, control, sterilizations and awareness are the services offered by the Animal Welfare Unit (UBA), an entity of the Municipality of Quito in charge of all activities and regulations in relation to animals.
On the morning of this Wednesday, October 4, within the framework of World Animal Day, the UBA website in order for citizens to access information and services offered by said entity.
According to information from the Municipality, from May 15, 2023 to date, 18,331 sterilizations, 151 adoptions and 1,730 inspections for possible animal abuse or poor ownership have been carried out.

At the Veterinary Care, Rescue and Temporary Shelter Center (Cavrat) of Calderón, located north of Quito, a pet care fair was held, with the presence of Mayor Pabel Muñoz, the Secretary of Health, Marysol Ruilova and Karina Pisco, director of the UBA.
Muñoz mentioned that there is a possibility of creating a new Cavrat that would be located in Quitumbe, south of the city; or in Tababela, in the northeast of the capital.
“This is a very intense dynamic at work, since pets arrive and are cared for within a period of 40 minutes. Those who are found on the streets, or are left in the centers, go through a medical process, so that when they are adopted they have a companion animal with a more harmonious behavior,” said the mayor.

This Sunday, October 8, a solidarity walk for Animal Welfare is planned, starting at 07:00.
The activity will begin in the South Tribune and will end on Bulevar 24 de Mayo. A municipal services fair will be installed in this place, including care for animals. (YO)
