Thanks to the municipal authorities of Cali, with the creation of the Animal Welfare Center, the owners of kittens, puppies and in general companion animals that are in need, will be able to access free veterinary care services for their pets.

The creation of this center responds to the need of all the people of Cali to care for animals, protect them and ensure that they can be treated with dignity and respect.
The work began its construction in April 2021, but it was delivered until December 2022 because it was postponed due to the social outbreak that went through the city in 2021.
The establishment has a care capacity for 160 animals including small large species, canines, cats, birds, horses and pigs. In addition, the place provides all kinds of veterinary medical services in spaces suitable for offices, X-ray rooms, surgery, among others.
The site also provides training and education services where workshops, conferences, educational activities, research and much more are held.

The Animal Welfare Center is the shelter for pets in various lines of work, first of all there is a hospital and a medical team that provides services to the community with the fewest resources, which are in sisben A and B. For another side is pedagogy, we hold conferences in the territories and cases are also dealt with when there are fights that have to do with animals, finally, the corporate area, which deals with complaints of animal abuse and is throughout the city solving cases and doing operations with the Police” indicated the director of the Special Administrative Unit for Animal Protection, Liliana Sierra.
Among the most serious cases that the Center’s specialists have dealt with is a dog that was tied up in the muzzle with barbed wire. “Firulais”, a puppy that a man shot at and another furry one that they used to “learn how to perform surgeries, they castrated it badly, they gouged out one eye and cut off its tail.”
In addition to the veterinary support and attention to animals that is carried out in the Animal Welfare Center, they also provide legal assistance, since they work with the authorities so that people who mistreat animals are punished.
“The regulations in Colombia establish two types of animal abuse according to the severity of the injuries. What is considered serious abuse, goes to the Prosecutor’s Office and begins legal proceedings, it must seriously impair the life or health of the animal, for example, lose a member, an organ, a fracture, require surgery and its recovery goes beyond 30 days, everything else is classified by law as mild abuse, there are no middle terms and these are dealt with through the police inspection of animal abuse, where administrative processes are carried out, not criminal ones,” indicated Sierra.

After the rescue and the process of the health and legal situation of the puppies that arrive at the Animal Welfare Center, an adoption process begins. The Center holds adoption days periodically, through this line interested persons can communicate to adopt a furry: WhastApp 3166318063.
It should be noted that the people of Cali will not be able to bring animals victims of abuse and abandonment to the CBA, since these cases must be entered with an official authority in charge of dealing with the cases.
Requirements to acquire veterinary care for your pets:

– Consent to accept the data processing policy.

– Enter the animal with a single person in charge to the office.
– Belong to the classification A and B of the Sisbén.
– Not belonging to the contributory regime as a contributor.
– Be respectful with the CBA staff.
– The CBA staff may authorize the attention of any person who does not meet the above requirements, but who can prove their vulnerability.
Free days of sterilization
Julián Andrés Rivera, a veterinarian from the Cali Animal Welfare Center, CBA, explained that the sterilization days are carried out in conjunction with the Cali Health Secretariat, prior registration, and benefit citizens of all communes, prioritizing socioeconomic strata. 1 2 and 3.

This is one of the programs to control the animal population, which in Cali reaches figures of 400,000 and it is estimated that some 60,000 are living on the street and semi-abandoned (irresponsible possessions).
