Animal sentimental | MI | 06 07 2022 | 17:30

And because she’s sentimental, the prominent Portuguese singer and fado innovator can look back on 30 years of career and wants to do some things even better. So she sings – with one exception – songs that she has already interpreted before, but finds new approaches and has allowed herself to record and produce with a top-class crew.

First and foremost is Wolf-Dieter Karwatky, an award-winning producer and engineer who has worked with some of the biggest names in classical music and won Grammies over a 50-year career. The musicians: pianist Fabrizio Romano, guitarists Bernardo Couto (Portuguese guitar), Bruno Costa (Coimbra guitar) and Bernardo Viana (fado guitar) as well as Luís Ferreirinha (viola) and bassist Daniel Pinto.

Finally, the elegant arrangements by Ricardo Días. Everything and everyone is of the highest quality, from the painted cover picture to the poems set to music. As is almost always the case with Mísia, they come from hand-picked poets.

“Animal Sentimental” is classy in every aspect and thus fully corresponds to its charismatic protagonist, whose voice only gets better with age.
