Around fifteen associations defending the animal cause participated this Wednesday, December 20 in a seizure of the property of Countess Diana du Monceau, in Chastre. A large-scale operation, difficult for the teams of volunteers who were confronted with animals, both dogs and horses, which had almost returned to the wild.
“In 12 years, this is the 4th seizure from this person, there must be around 450 animals seized there, we wonder when it will stop…”, summarizes Sébastien De Jonge, from the Sans Collier shelter (Perwez and Chastre), whose teams took care of dozens of dogs on Wednesday.

The King’s Prosecutor of Walloon Brabant, Marc Rézette, followed the case closely and entrusted it to an investigating judge: “The owner was heard on Wednesday, following which she was charged with various offenses to the Walloon Code on animal welfare. Most of the animals present were able to be taken in, with the exception of a few dogs who resisted and were wandering around the property once more on Thursday. But the associations will have to catch them as well. At this stage, and without it being consolidated, we counted 150 dogs, 70 equines – donkeys, ponies and horses – as well as birds including parrots.” To which we can add four cats, goats, sheep, etc. More than 200 animals for sure.
Neighbors of the Countess de Chastre angry: “We want to prevent her from having animals but she buys them and has no control over them”
The legal proceedings will now take their course. This is not the first time that Diana du Monceau has had to answer for her mania for “collecting” animals, without having the means to care for or feed them. A behavior that psychiatry calls “Noah syndrome”.

One thing is certain, if her license to keep animals has never been withdrawn, this time, the repeat offender is at great risk. The non-profit organization GAIA announced this Thursday that it had instructed its lawyers and will join other associations to defend the interests of animals, as part of the legal proceedings once morest the abuser. “We will do everything to obtain an exemplary sanction and a ban on keeping animals for life,” declared the GAIA spokesperson.
