Animal Seizure at Countess Diana Dumonceau’s Property: A Dramatic Situation

2023-12-20 12:04:00

Many animal rights associations and shelters were asked by the authorities to help them carry out a seizure this Wednesday morning, in Chastre, Villeroux, in the property of Countess Diana Dumonceau de Bergendael. The Walloon Brabant public prosecutor’s office is in charge of the case following a complaint filed.

On site, numerous vans and trailers are parked in the surrounding streets. The Charleroi SPA, the Sans Collier shelter, Abi’s dream, Animals in danger, and others, made the trip to take in the suffering animals and evacuate them. The Orne-Thyle police zone is also on site to supervise evacuation operations. Things may take time. It appears from initial information that 150 to 200 animals will have to be evacuated. This might take the whole day.

A dramatic situation for animals

According to our information, the dogs roaming the vast property, operating in packs, attacked the weakest donkeys and horses. Attacks, bites, untimely aggressive barking of dogs surrounding their victims, but also injured dogs, left for dead… The cruelty of the images that have reached us is simply unbearable, which is why we will not broadcast them all.

“We have noticed over the last two weeks that donkeys and horses no longer get along well together. There was no longer any animal control on the ground, I think the owner was overwhelmed,” declared the mayor. Thierry Champagne, adding that he had contacted the services of the King’s Prosecutor of Nivelles to put an end to this situation.

Many backgrounds

Countess Diana Dumonceau has already been talked regarding on more than one occasion in the courtrooms and the media. Her “immoderate love” for collecting free-ranging animals (sheep, dogs, horses, donkeys, etc.) has already landed her on the dock several times at the criminal court of Walloon Brabant. The last one, in 2018, was spectacular. The wild horses had run away and volunteers were injured trying to stop them.

Each time, in her defense, the person concerned maintains that most of the animals do not belong to her, that their owners entrust them to her, that she keeps them on a voluntary basis and that some never return…

The last time she found herself in court, it was no longer for animal abuse but that of a human. She received a one-year suspended prison sentence for the treatment inflicted on her handyman. It was October 2022.
