On Friday, March 10, the Anija Lions club announced the municipality’s person of the year 2022 at a celebratory dinner held at the Viru variety show in Tallinn. The title was awarded to Raimo Jõerand, a film director living in the village of Raudoja, who is the 27th person of the year chosen by the lions of Anija municipality. The traditional souvenir, a bell named following Raimo Jõeranda, was handed over to Raimo Jõeranda by the president of the Anija Lions club, Aivar Urva.

“Lõviklubi would like to recognize Raimo Jõeranda with the title of person of the year for the work he has done so far in recording the history and cultural history of Estonia. We are very honored and happy that such a person lives in Anija municipality,” said Aivar Urva.

He noted that last year, the director, who is better known in the cultural public of Estonia than in his homeland, completed two remarkable films – “Rhapsody of Kukerpillide” regarding the beloved ensemble and “Gorikaturist”, which opens the life tragedy of a former cartoonist in a new way, drawing parallels with the fate of Estonia.

“The support of my home municipality is very sweet and touching, I am very grateful for it,” said Raimo Jõerand from Tallinn, who has lived in Anija municipality for twenty years.
