Aníbal Torres: more voices demand the departure of the head of the Ministerial Cabinet | POLITICS

Hannibal Torres stays in the Presidency of the Council of Ministers (PCM) while unions and congressmen from different benches consider that his permanence at the head of the Cabinet will generate more instability in the Executive. Therefore, they agree that the president peter castle must appoint a new prime minister with a conciliatory profile.

This last week, Torres attacked the National Agreement and insulted Cardinal Pedro Barreto, actions that have weakened his position in the PCM.

Congressman Diego Bazán, from Avanza País, told El Comercio that with these incidents the chief of staff “He has shown that he is incapable of dialogue”. He also held the head of state responsible for bad decisions in forming his Cabinet. “The problem is the president, who insists on giving space to these people”he added.

A similar position was expressed by Lucio Castro, general secretary of Sutep. “We consider that it should be [en el cargo] someone who has the ability to reach consensus and direct solutions to conflicts. The prime minister has shown no signs of having a spirit of consensus.”said Castro, who also questioned other sectors, such as Education, because – he stressed – collective bargaining is not being implemented.

Like Bazán, he indicated that “It is essential that the president guide his actions; we can change people, but if it continues like this, it will get worse.” He did not rule out that they even ask for Castillo’s resignation if the demands are not met.

Congresswoman Kira Alcarraz, from Somos Perú, joined the request for Torres to leave the PCM, because “It’s creating instability.” “He must take a step to the side and we are waiting for that not only me, but the bench. […] We continue with the same ministers who do not have experience, an adequate profile”, he expressed. The legislator highlighted the responsibility of the head of state in the questioned appointments.

Hernando Guerra García, spokesman for Fuerza Popular, told this newspaper: “The increasingly intemperate statements by the prime minister make it unfeasible for him to remain in office. Maintaining it affects the country and the Executive itself more and more every day”.

In his turn, Iván Lanegra, general secretary of the civil association Transparency, expressed: “If there really is a will to make a change in the Government’s trajectory, this implies not only a change of names, but also of the type of people who assume this position”.

He mentioned that suitability, respect for democratic forms and integrity are essential. “The problem is the president, who is going to look for a suitable person for this position. […] The prime minister is a symptom”Lanegra added.

Meanwhile, the president of Congress, María del Carmen Alva, wrote on her Twitter account that “insults destroy any form of dialogue” and expressed solidarity with Cardinal Pedro Barreto for Torres’ insult.

On Thursday, the president of the Council of Ministers led the installation of a technical table in the Vraem. Before the round of dialogue began, five indigenous leaders who were located in the room left because the mayor of Río Negro, Lizeth Chuquimia Velásquez, approached the head of the PCM to dress him in a cushma, traditional clothes of the central jungle.
