An angry husband allegedly decapitated his wife in a fit of violent rage because her morning cup of tea was “delayed”.
The suspect, whose only name is Dharamveer, killed his wife Sundari with a sword at their home in Faljagadh village near the capital Delhi in India’s Uttar Pradesh state, according to police.
The 52-year-old worker gave his 50-year-old wife 15 blows with a sword before decapitating her because she was taking too long to prepare her drink, Indian media report.
The local police chief said the husband woke up a few minutes following his wife, who had already started preparing the drink, and immediately asked where it was.
After being told it would take another 10 minutes, Dharamveer flew into a rage, rushed to grab a gun which he then allegedly used to hit his wife sitting on the stove.
The couple’s four children were sleeping in another room.
Their son, named Soldier, heard her screams and rushed to the scene, where he saw his mother bleeding to death.
Dharamveer allegedly attacked his son and other children who were trying to help their mother. They fled to their room.
Villagers, alerted by the screams, also rushed to their homes and found Sundari dead in a pool of blood.
The police were called and Sundari’s body was taken for post-mortem. Dharamveer was arrested.
Soldier told Indian media that his father used to drink five or six cups of tea a day.
He added that Dharamveer often got angry and shouted at his mother if she refused to make tea or if it was late, but he never hit her until then.
The investigation continues.
