Angolan detained in Mozambique will be extradited – news

The National Criminal Investigation Service (Sernic) of Mozambique said yesterday that the Angolan arrested last Thursday (21.12), in Maputo, for international drug trafficking will be extradited to his country

“Administrative procedures are now underway to extradite the same individual. As soon as everything is organized, he will be extradited,” Hilário Lole, Sernic spokesperson in the city of Maputo, told Lusa.

The 51-year-old man was arrested on Thursday (21.12) in Maputo, the Mozambican capital, following fleeing his country in September 2019, where he was serving a final sentence in 2017.

The Angolan was serving a prison sentence of more than 10 years for committing the crime of international drug trafficking in Angola, according to the Mozambican Police. During his detention, the man presented several false identification documents, including those from Mozambique, Brazil, Namibia and Seychelles, with different names than those in Angola and, in others, with a different photograph.

The action might also constitute the “practice of the crime of forgery of documents”, warned Sernic in a note distributed on Tuesday (26.12). “This is a sign that the Mozambican authorities are attentive to all movements of citizens who intend to use the country as a refuge, as well as to nationals who become involved in the world of crime”, concluded the Sernic spokesperson.
