Anglican Church Blesses Same-Sex Couple – A Historic Moment Covered by PA

For the first time in its history, the Anglican Church blessed a same-sex couple in a ceremony on Sunday, the British news agency PA reported.
Catherine Bond and Jane Pearce were the first to receive this blessing, which was held in Felixstowe, eastern England. Both women were blessed for their “love and friendship” as well as their “mutual commitment.”

Earlier in the week, the Anglican Church’s House of Bishops gave the green light to this “type” of blessings, confirming a decision taken last February by the General Synod to authorize blessing and prayer for homosexual couples.

The Anglican Synod, the legislative body of the Church of England, has debated at length the blessing of same-sex couples. Some felt this measure was insufficient and demanded that homosexual people be able to marry in Church, while others perceived allowing such blessings as “too radical” a measure.
