Social media influencers used to share the details of their daily lives with their followers, but a Moroccan influencer’s publication of a video clip sparked a lot of controversy in Morocco, as some considered it “offensive”.
In the video, YouTuber Fatiha, 41, appears, sharing what she does throughout the day, including entering the toilet. This clip caused an uproar among Moroccans, as some described it as a “outrage of public modesty.”
The Fatiha hashtag became my daily routine among the most widespread in Morocco.
The criticism went beyond the limits of cyberspace, as the Moroccan authorities in the city of Témara, where the YouTuber resides, intervened in the matter.
The judicial police arrested the woman, and according to local media, she was charged with “deliberately documenting indecent scenes inside her home, with the publication and promotion of these digital content that harms public modesty on social media and on her YouTube channel.”
And on social media, tweeters expressed their dissatisfaction with the content of the videos, calling on the authorities to impose stricter restrictions on similar clips.
Some said that the videos “strike the values of society and offend the women of Morocco.”
cross FacebookMP Hanan Atrekin published an official letter she addressed to the Minister of Youth and Culture, Mohamed El Mahdi Bensaid, asking regarding “providing an organized and deterrent legal framework to control the content industry.”
In her letter, the representative referred to the large volume of follow-ups and views of similar videos, which gives them a “fake credibility”, expressing concern regarding this, and the promotion of a “negative stereotype regarding Moroccan women.”
Tweeters circulated the hashtag #Stop_My Daily_Routine to express their rejection of the content.
This was not the first time that the YouTuber raised controversy with her clips, as she was known to publish clips, some of which were bold or very private, which some see as an attempt by the woman to become famous by gaining the largest possible number of views.
On the other hand, some expressed their solidarity with “Fatiha”, such as the well-known Moroccan rapper “Toto”, who published the “Freedom for Fatiha” hashtag on his Instagram page.
