Ángel Llàcer (50 years old) has been reborn. This is what he said, visibly moved, in his first interview after spending weeks in hospital, in the ICU, where the presenter himself came to fear for his life. Popular in recent years as a member of the jury of the program ‘Tu cara me suena’, with his energetic and crazy comments, in recent months he has been away from the spotlight due to an illness.
It all began during a trip to Vietnam, where he contracted a bacteria that caused a severe infection. After taking antibiotics prescribed by a doctor in Bangkok and resting for three days, he returned to Spain and was hospitalised for several days in Madrid due to severe pain. When he was discharged and returned home to Barcelona, he had to be treated again as an emergency, with necrotising fasciitis, which required four operations on his leg, and he spent fourteen days in intensive care.
«The bacteria is called shigella, which sounds like the name of a drag queen. I had stomach pain, bloody stools and my fever was getting higher and higher. It was horrible. They were very worried», he had previously said on social media. Now, in front of a camera, on the program ‘Col lapse’ on the Catalan channel TV3, the communicator has revealed several difficult moments of that whole process, in which he felt that the end of his story was being written. «The calf was cured, but the bacteria continued to rise and, if it entered a vital organ… it was over. It is a bacteria that eats away at the body. They even told me that either I would come out without a leg or I would not come out at all», so Llàcer said goodbye to his family, telling them «love each other».

In addition to his story, the Catalan also wanted to show the physical after-effects that this whole process has left him with, showing the camera the scars he has on his leg after the operations. These interventions force Llàcer to attend rehabilitation sessions. “I have learned to put one foot after the other, literally. I can’t jump or climb stairs, I can only walk, and I do it slowly.”
Death as a siren song
What at first seemed like a temporary illness ended up becoming the worst experience he has ever had to endure in his life, saying that in addition to the physical and emotional pain, he had another feeling that was telling him that he was not going to be able to get out of this situation. “It was like a siren song. It was very easy to let go.” After undergoing one of the operations, in which they removed “the rotten part of the leg,” they confirmed that everything had gone perfectly, but he has confessed that he did not have the same certainty. “I told the doctor that I had a premonition that I was going to die.” This same feeling had come to him when he said goodbye to his parents, to whom he stressed that they should not “be too bitter” since he had “lived intensely” and was going to “leave full.” Llàcer’s only regret was having to leave so soon and leaving behind so many loved ones.
