Ane Gabarain has won tonight the Goya for Best Supporting Actress for her work in the film ‘20,000 Species of Bees’, directed by Estibaliz Urresola.
Gabarain competed for the award with her co-star Itziar Lazkano, who is her sister in ‘20,000 Species of Bees’; with Ana Torrent, nominated for ‘Closing the Eyes’; with Clara Segura, for ‘Creatura’; and with Luisa Gavasa, for ‘The Teacher Who Promised the Sea’.
Coronado, Best Supporting Actor
In the men’s category, José Coronado was recognized this Saturday with the Goya for Best Supporting Actor for his work in the film ‘Closing the Eyes‘, directed by Víctor Erice.
This is the second Goya for the Madrid actor, who competed for the award with Martxelo Rubio (‘20,000 Species of Bees’); Juan Carlos Vellido (‘Under Therapy’); Álex Brendemühl (‘Creatura’), and Hugo Silva (‘A Love’).
Coronado encouraged his fellow nominees to “keep fighting”: “Cheer up, you are young and have time“, he addressed them from the stage, already holding the statuette in his hands.
The Madrid interpreter referred to this award as a “cake” that they have all shared among the nominees, but “someone has to take it home”, Coronado expressed.
Additionally, the actor thanked Erice for the gift of the character of Julio in the work and for his cinema, always “tremendously respectful of the audience when telling stories”.
“This work speaks of identity, of memory, and that resonates with all of us,” added Coronado, extending his gratitude to everyone who made this work possible.
