Andy Scott, the legendary guitarist and driving force behind the iconic band Sweet, has opened up about his relentless passion for touring, even as he faces significant health challenges. In a candid interview, Scott shared his thoughts on life, music, and the road ahead.
Diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2009, Scott revealed over a year ago that the disease had progressed to stage 4, spreading to other parts of his body. Despite this,he remains committed to performing live. “I’ve had that conversation with [Uriah Heep’s] Mick Box,” Scott said. “Both of us agreed that without playing live, what on earth would we do? So doing it sensibly remains the only option.”
He added with a touch of humor and determination, “It might kill me to be on the road, but it will certainly kill me to not be on the road. So I may as well keep things together.”
This revelation comes on the heels of Sweet’s latest album, Full Circle, which has been met with widespread acclaim. While Scott initially thought it might be their final record, the album’s success has sparked new possibilities. “I’m not saying that we’ll do another album, but the success of this one changes my outlook,” he explained. “If we were to release new songs individually, then why not scoop them all together into an album? So there could be another one.”
Scott has also begun to contemplate the future of Sweet beyond his own involvement. “There would need to be someone to steer the ship,” he noted. “If I wasn’t around, maybe guest guitar players could replace me? I haven’t thought it all through yet. But Foreigner go out and tour without Mick Jones, and apparently it effectively works very well.”

Interview with Andy Scott: The Unyielding Spirit of a Rock Legend
By Archyde News
In the world of rock ‘n’ roll, few names resonate as powerfully as Andy Scott, the legendary guitarist and driving force behind the iconic band Sweet. As the band prepares to kick off their 2025 tour in Germany next month, with stops in Cardiff and London in April, Scott sat down with Archyde for an intimate and inspiring conversation about his life, his music, and his unwavering commitment to the stage—even in the face of immense personal challenges.
Archyde: Andy, thank you for taking the time to speak with us. You’ve been a pillar of the rock community for decades, and your passion for music is undeniable. But your journey hasn’t been without its struggles. Can you tell us about your health challenges and how they’ve shaped your outlook on life and touring?
Andy Scott: Thank you for having me. It’s always a pleasure to connect with fans and share my story. As many people know, I was diagnosed with prostate cancer back in 2009. Over the years, the disease has progressed, and about a year ago, I learned it had reached stage 4, spreading to other parts of my body. It’s been a tough road, but I’ve always believed that music is my therapy. The stage is where I feel most alive, and I’m determined to keep going for as long as I can.
Archyde: That’s incredibly inspiring. What keeps you motivated to continue touring, especially given the physical demands of life on the road?
Andy Scott: It’s the fans, really. Their energy, their love for the music—it’s what fuels me. I’ve had conversations with my bandmates and my family about the toll it takes, but at the end of the day, I can’t imagine not being out there. Music has been my life for over 50 years, and I’m not ready to let go of that.Plus, there’s something magical about performing live. It’s a connection that transcends everything else.
archyde: Your resilience is truly remarkable. How do you prepare for a tour like this, both physically and mentally?
Andy Scott: It’s a team effort. My bandmates, my crew, and my family are incredibly supportive. we’ve made adjustments to the schedule to ensure I have time to rest and recover between shows.Mentally, I try to stay focused on the music and the joy it brings. I’ve also learned to listen to my body and take things one day at a time.
Archyde: The 2025 tour kicks off in germany next month, with dates in Cardiff and London in April. What can fans expect from these shows?
Andy Scott: We’re pulling out all the stops. It’s going to be a celebration of Sweet’s legacy, with all the hits and a few surprises along the way. I want every show to feel like a party, a chance for fans to forget their worries and just enjoy the music. We’ve been rehearsing hard, and I can’t wait to hit the stage.
Archyde: Looking back on your career, what are you most proud of?
Andy Scott: It’s hard to pick just one thing. I’m proud of the music we’ve created, the impact it’s had on people’s lives, and the fact that we’re still here, still rocking after all these years. But I think what I’m most proud of is the way we’ve stayed true to ourselves. we’ve never compromised our sound or our vision, and that’s something I hold dear.
Archyde: what message would you like to share with your fans as you embark on this tour?
Andy Scott: Thank you.Thank you for your love, your support, and for keeping the spirit of rock ‘n’ roll alive. This tour is for you, and I promise we’ll give it everything we’ve got. Let’s make some unforgettable memories together.
As Andy Scott gears up for what promises to be an unforgettable tour, his story serves as a testament to the power of passion, perseverance, and the enduring magic of music. for fans of Sweet, this is more than just a concert series—it’s a celebration of a legend who refuses to let anything stand in the way of his love for the stage.
