Andy Murray’s love story now that he has said goodbye to tennis

Andy Murray, the most successful English tennis player today, has announced his retirement from the sport that has given him his life after failing to make it past the round in the doubles category at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. His wife, Kim Sears, has expressed her pride in the athlete from the very beginning, and this time has been no different.

Andy played the last match of his career alongside Daniel Evans, his partner in the men’s doubles event at Paris 2024 and with whom he reached the quarter-finals. “I’m sad to finish,” said the tennis player, since, as he announced before the Games began, he would retire from tennis as soon as his time in the French capital was over.

As always, his family has given him all the support he needed in these weeks. His wife Kim has not held back her pride in her husband, saying that it is a virtue that he concentrates so much on the matches, giving his best on every occasion. Andy, for his part, has thanked both his wife and his mother, Judy Murray, for all the encouragement they have given him throughout his career.

His role as a ‘great father’

Kim has taken advantage of the interview with Judy and Jamie – Andy’s brother – where the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) has made them reflect on the figure of the British tennis legend to highlight how different ‘player Andy’ is from ‘family Andy’. “At first I thought they were two completely different people,” he begins, because while on the court he “runs like a gazelle,” in everyday life “it seems like he doesn’t know how to run.”

He also wanted to highlight his role as a father, saying that he is “incredibly loving and patient” with his four children: Sophie, Edie, Teddie and Lola; aged eight, six, four, and three respectively. On more than one occasion Andy has acknowledged that his eldest daughter plays tennis, and that it is something he would love for her to continue over time.

Sophie was born in 2016, just a year after her parents got married. The couple tied the knot on April 11, 2015, and the ceremony was filled with details of Scottish folklore and tradition. The nuptials came after ten years of dating, when they were introduced by Kim’s father, Nigel Sears, who was a tennis coach.

After their last game at Paris 2024, the LTA announced that the stadium of cinch Championships in The Queen’s Club will become known as The Andy Murray Arenain honour of his record five titles in that space. These awards are not the only memorable thing about his career, since in 2016, at just 29 years old, he became the first British player to reach number one in the ATP rankings. That same year he ended a streak of 24 consecutive victories, in addition to having managed to remain the best player in the world for 41 weeks in his career, making him the legend that he is today.
