Androulakis Seeks to Position PASOK as the Dominant Force in 2024 Politics

“It is necessary for the national strategic, progressive program that I proposed to be the next government program with the help of the people. I am very optimistic”, noted the president and re-candidate for president of PASOK-KINAL, while he advocated the political autonomy of PASOK-KINAL, saying that it is the only way to re-enter the political scene as a protagonist and acquire the characteristics of a strong government.

“How can the great Center Left be made? In the background? With top deals? With methods? With old protagonists who, when they lost the ministerial chair of PASOK, looked for it in other parties?” he wondered.

To a question about whether there is an issue with the candidacy of Haris Doukas, he said that “we will go to the internal party elections united without exclusions”, there is no such issue and he is impressed that it keeps coming back. As for whether Mr. Doukas can be both the mayor of Athens and the president of PASOK, he emphasized that “everyone will be judged for their decisions by the world of PASOK”.

He asked all his fellow candidates for the presidency of PASOK to commit from now on that they will also be on the party’s ballots, because, as he noticed, there were cases when PASOK’s presidential candidates were later candidates on the ballots of other parties, and he mentioned Andreas Loverdos by name.

Regarding the criticism leveled at him for the way he functioned as party president, he replied that he did not make decisions on his own and the ballots were drawn up in an open democratic manner. “Everything we did and said was on our schedule. I don’t feel any bitterness, I’ve been through it before,” he said and declared that he wishes for unity at the base and not “the sharing of power among barons.”

Regarding PASOK, he emphasized that “it is the only party that is rising slowly but steadily”. The path he proposes is arduous, but it is a one-way street for PASOK to quickly become a government.

Regarding the scenarios of joint SYRIZA-PASOK ballots, Mr. Androulakis emphasized that such a thing would result in Mr. Mitsotakis remaining prime minister and observed that these are peddled by those who want to save themselves and underlined:

“I am fighting to re-establish a great Center-Left which will not recall the mistakes of PASOK of the past, but its great work, nor the managerial inadequacy and the games with the institutions of the Tsipras-Kammenos era. A modern Center Left, democratic, progressive, responsible. For me, this is a one-way street and this is the only scheme and the only plan that can lead New Democracy and Mr. Mitsotakis to the opposition.

Only PASOK’s strategy of political autonomy leads to the great Center-Left, because it is the only strategy that leads to bilateral enlargement. I hear different scenarios. Shares, he says, ballot papers with SYRIZA. So what to do? Should Mr. Mitsotakis remain prime minister? Because the one who says it probably doesn’t know that even what he gives as a solution is a mockery because he doesn’t get the bonus of 50 seats. I will not enter into bargains and aliswerisia for the great Center-Left”.

He said that SYRIZA officials have returned to PASOK and more will return, but there are moral and political rules that must not be violated.

He refused to comment on developments in the official opposition, but noted that the reason he took the decision to appeal to internal party elections in PASOK was “so that we don’t suffer what happened to SYRIZA”.

He called the possibility of a joint government between ND and PASOK “the shortest anecdote” and launched an attack on Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis for his entire policy, with spikes in the issues of accuracy, health and education.

He accused Mr. Mitsotakis of acting as the “traffic warden for high-interest cartels.” He said that “he has turned the housing crisis into one of the biggest businesses along with health” and about education he pointed out that “if Mr. Mitsotakis “succeeds” in education that he “succeeded” in health as well, then we will all enter us in big adventures” while especially on the issue of non-profit non-state HEIs he emphasized that “we will not become complicit with Mr. Mitsotakis”. He said, in fact, that in the constitutional revision he will invite the prime minister to write together the article on non-profit non-state universities.

Regarding foreign policy and especially in Greek-Turkish, he observed that “the government goes from mistake to mistake”. The reaction of the Greek government to the events in Kasos was “retarded”, he said, while it does not have a solid strategy for the Balkans.

In response to a question about the wiretapping case, he commented that “I exposed the wiretapping state, I was the first of the politicians to go to the Greek and European Authorities and instead of thanks I received conspiracy theory”. He said he also exposed the government to the cover-up of the case and predicted that we will soon have news of the initiatives it has undertaken at the European level on the wiretapping case.

He replied to his critics that if he had filed a lawsuit against Mr. Mitsotakis, he would have given “the greatest gift” to the prime minister, because the investigation of the case would have stopped, the matter would have gone to Parliament and the ND MPs would have voted as they voted in the case of the former Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Kostas Ah. Karamanlis for the tragedy of Tempe.

Regarding Germany’s change of attitude towards immigration, he noted that Berlin must see things realistically, engage in dialogue and not proceed with unilateral actions.
