Androulakis for Mitsotakis: He is a champion in arrogance

Nikos Androulakis opened fire on Kyriakos Mitsotakis, whom he described as a “champion of arrogance”.

Its president PASOK-KINALwho is visiting Chania on the occasion of the wedding of the mayor of Chania, with whom they maintain an old friendship, spoke about the presidential elections in the party, commented on political developments and criticized the Kyriakos Mitsotakis about the way the country is governed.

Here are the highlights of what he said, according to enikos:

For the fires

“We have been talking about climate change for twenty years now, we have extreme phenomena. States must prepare, and that is what we have been saying for so long. With equipment, firefighters and a plan. We need to get a more integrated system of cooperation between the fire and forest service. When we become a government we must make our country resilient. Our country cannot be one of the most vulnerable in Europe. And the poorest pay for it. The rich man with the villa, even if it burns down, will have insured it. The common man cannot do this.

Two billion is given through the European RescEU program and with a 30% discount for Canadair. This is a European program that I have helped to make happen, as a member of the European Parliament. Every year our country presses the RescEU European solidarity button the most times of all. Anyone wondering why it’s free? The Germans used to say that anyone who asks for help should pay after the second time. We removed that and now, whenever firefighters, aircraft from other countries come to Greece, we don’t pay anything.”

For PASOK and the presidential elections

“I have taken a PASOK which was considered written off and which has now been reborn. I managed the debts, settled them. And I’ve been a member of parliament for a year. PASOK, which was not played by any central media, continued its upward course despite the war it faced in the pre-election period and in the entire region of the country it is the second party. If I said this two years ago you would have laughed at me.

It would be good to put the personal agenda aside and have a political discussion. I will do this until October. When I ran for president and said that I disagree with Turkey’s European perspective, my party did not say that. Each candidate must offer something to the public debate. So this process will not turn into a catwalk. And we have to have a political discussion, why don’t we want a prime minister candidate from PASOK? Will he only know the party kitchen?

And in 2023 there were fellow citizens who gave Mitsotakis another chance because they did not want to give Tsipras a chance. But you saw that after a year many of them did not even go to the elections. And it lost 13%, a big blow. Yes, we could get higher rates. But we are now a strong, autonomous pole with a perspective. And in order to gain the trust of the people, it takes time and credibility.”

For the Mitsotakis administration

“Mr. Mitsotakis is a champion of arrogance. Many times he makes intemperate statements that underestimate the intelligence of the people. How many times has he said about accuracy that it is now behind us, but accuracy is galloping. We see the cost of living skyrocketing and the welfare state collapsed. We are second in all of Europe in private health spending and we will become first.

The current prime minister said in 2019 that he came to heal the wounds of Tsipras and Kammenos and is doing the same and worse. He discredits the institutions, while I say we should strengthen the institutions. Our state must become better, because otherwise the Greeks will choose abroad. This is unfair to Greece and the political system has a great debt and responsibility to change”.

Electricity, garbage, Mitsotakis

“If I were prime minister with 40 billion of the Recovery Fund, I would give a large amount for energy and networks, so that the country can smoothly leave lignite. Not with the big companies, but giving the opportunity to communities, municipalities, cooperatives to produce their own electricity economically. If we had solar panels on the roofs of poor Greeks, as in many European countries, the poor would not go into energy poverty like today, but would have electricity. Today it has become a client planning that foresees a great dependence on natural gas, it has become an Eldorado of cronies, friends and oligarchs.

The Portuguese had taken an exception to the way electricity was priced. Greece did not. Why? Because they don’t have a huge dependence on natural gas and they have a lot of RES. RES is useful for two reasons: the energy produced is ours and we don’t need anyone for pipelines or anything. And the cost of production in the countryside, because the farmer and the cooperative can have their own electricity and whatever is left over can be sold to the grid. So you won’t need to import Polish tomatoes. When all factors of production costs are rising, you have to reduce as much as you can, what you can. But here everything is on autopilot, there is no vision because Kyriakos Mitsotakis is just a manager who manages problems and on customer terms.

We also have a very big problem with garbage. We have a very high burden in the summer, we have very expensive recycling. In Estonia in 15 years they did what we have not done even close. They took key elements from the Finnish model. While in Greece there is no dialogue on the issue, there is only populism and corruption”.

His political relationship with Crete

“All my childhood memories are in Crete. I remember Andreas Papandreou in ’85, Gennimatas who had made a big speech in Heraklion. The years have polarized him, which is good not to return. I am honored that my relationship with the world was built village by village. I’m sure this relationship won’t fall by the wayside again. PASOK had great adventures in the previous 15 years, but I pledge that the bad behaviors will not return. They say I’m a bit heavy-handed, but I believe that politics is important, not communication, which others have turned into the main element of their action.”
